From Village to Nairobi: A Fight for Survival
Before moving to Nairobi, Stacy’s family faced tough economic times in Western Kenya. Her parents’ small-scale businesses barely made ends meet, leading them to seek a better life in Nairobi. However, the transition was fraught with challenges. Displaced by violence in their village, they arrived in Nairobi with little support, facing the harsh realities of urban slum life. Despite these obstacles, Stacy’s family persevered. Her father found work, and her mother took on laundry jobs, even while caring for newborn twins.

Education as a Beacon of Hope
Stacy’s educational journey has been a rollercoaster of hope and setbacks. Initially unable to afford high school, she faced interruptions that could have derailed her future. But the community at SoulMentor saw her potential. Thanks to donations from individuals like you, Stacy was able to resume her education. “I was happy that you took the liberty of sponsoring my education despite the fact that we don’t know each other. Thank you, Morten,” she says with gratitude.
A Passion for Dance and Dreams of a Brighter Future
In her spare time, Stacy teaches dance to young children in Mathare, using her talent to keep them engaged and out of trouble. Dance is more than a hobby for Stacy; it’s a lifeline that brings joy to her and others. Looking ahead, Stacy is optimistic about her future. She is set to finish high school next year and dreams of furthering her education in beauty and hairdressing.
Her Dream: A Salon of Her Own
Stacy envisions owning a bustling salon far from the hardships of Mathare. “More customers, more earnings,” she quotes optimistically. Her ambition is to create a successful business that not only supports her but also provides services that bring joy and confidence to her clients.
